Good questions

Frequently asked

Everything people ask about joining, following, and supporting the trip.

  • We roll out of Pennsylvania in April 2028, heading north to Alaska first. The countdown on the site tracks the exact departure.

  • No — it’s a convoy and a community, not a tour. There are no seats for sale. You can follow along, meet us on the road, caravan in your own vehicle, or back the journey.

  • If you have your own van, truck, or overland rig, you’re welcome to caravan along any stretch of the route. We’ll share planned positions with the list so you can join for a day, a week, or a whole leg.

  • Get on the dispatch list. We’ll share waypoints and rough timing as each leg approaches so you can intercept us at a campsite, town, or trailhead.

  • A Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 144 AWD with a custom off-grid build — see The Van page for the full tour, inside and out.

  • Backers help cover fuel, the Darién Gap shipping, and gear. In return you get behind-the-scenes dispatches, perks, and input on the route. Join the list and we’ll share how when it opens.

  • Every mile that has a road, yes. The one gap is the Darién — ~60 miles (about 100 km) of roadless jungle between Panama and Colombia — which no one drives. The van crosses that stretch by boat.

  • About three years on the road, leaving in April 2028. Roughly: PA to the Arctic and back down to Mexico, then Central America, then a long stretch down the Andes to Patagonia — with plenty of time to actually stop and live in each place.

  • Yes — a lot. Since the Rossmonster build in late 2024 we’ve shaken it down across Newfoundland, PEI & Nova Scotia, the Gaspé, the James Bay Road toward Hudson Bay, northern Quebec in deep winter, Colorado, the Dempster Highway, and all over Pennsylvania. See the Watch page and the journal.

  • Join the dispatch list for email updates, and watch the films on YouTube (Travel Project). As the trip gets closer we’ll add live route and meet-up details for everyone on the list.

  • A mix of savings, working on the road, and community support. If you want to help fuel the journey, joining the list is the first step — we’ll share how backing works as it opens.
