Perito Moreno Glacier

A vast advancing glacier near El Calafate that calves house-sized ice into the lake.

Near El Calafate, the Perito Moreno glacier is a 5 km-wide wall of ice that, unusually, is still advancing — and regularly calves apartment-sized blocks into the lake with a crack like thunder.

Boardwalks bring you face to face with it; it’s one of the most accessible great glaciers on Earth.
